the BLUNT story goes like this…
While living in London and dealing with rainy commutes, Kiwi engineer Greig Brebner noticed how unsafe umbrellas were – being so tall, the spikes often poked him in the eye. He also noticed how umbrellas had become a throwaway commodity, mainly due to poor-quality materials and flimsy, outdated design.
So to save his eyes and reduce the number of broken umbrellas that end up as landfill each year, Greig set out to do something no one had done since 1928 – to re-invent the umbrella. And he began by re-designing the mechanisms.
Going right back to the drawing board, Greig married engineering innovation with no-fuss design styling to create something that exceeded even his own expectations: a ridiculously strong umbrella that could handle seriously wild weather.
After pushing countless prototypes to the limits in wind tunnels and on the blustery hills of Auckland, Greig finally did it. He’d re-invented the umbrella.
What’s so special about a Blunt umbrella?
The frame has been completely re-designed to create a super taut aerodynamic canopy.
How does the umbrella get its shape?
Patented Blunt ™ tips eliminate pressure points found on traditional umbrellas. Housed in specially designed pockets they also help tension the canopy and create a unique rounded silhouette.
How are Blunt umbrellas making a difference?
Every year, millions upon millions of umbrellas break in very ordinary weather conditions and end up in landfill. Blunt ™ umbrellas enable people to make the change from disposable
Can Blunt umbrellas handle stormy weather?
All Blunt ™ umbrella models are tested during development in a high-speed wind tunnel. Blunt umbrellas are easy to hold in the wind due to frame stability and a smooth aerodynamic canopy.
Where are Blunt umbrellas made?
Blunt ™ umbrellas are designed in New Zealand and manufac¬tured near Xiamen in China. Our factory has been making high quality umbrellas for over 50 years.
A two year global warranty
If a product ever fails due to a manufacturing defect, we will either repair or replace it. See bluntusa.com or email firstname.lastname@example.org for warranty claims.
What happens if my umbrella broke?
We back and guarantee our umbrellas so if something structurally were to happen with your umbrella you can fill out the Blunt warranty form under the 2 Year Warranty page and we will repair or replace your umbrella asap. You can also contact email@example.com as well.
How should I care for my umbrella?
Every BLUNT™ has a 38-point check before it reaches you. But there are some things you can do to ensure a great Blunt experience for years to come.
- BLUNT™ umbrellas feature high-performance, highly tensioned canopies. To ease the opening process in your new Blunt, leave it open overnight when first purchased.
- To maintain that silky smooth action, periodically wipe the shaft clean and apply a light layer of petroleum jelly (‘Vaseline’).
- The canopy can be cleaned with a damp cloth, or soft brush.
- Avoid dragging the canopy edge along the ground, as this may damage it.
- The BLUNT™ Umbrella Tips combine a robust design with easy replacement: if they become detached by accident, they can be simply pushed back into place.
How much wind will it cope with?
During the development stage, all Blunt™ umbrellas are tested in a high-speed wind tunnel. And the tests show that all our stick models will cope with wind strengths far beyond the levels you or I would feel comfortable using an umbrella in.
If and when you do use your Blunt™ umbrella on a windy day, the first thing you’ll notice is how stable it is to hold. The Radial Tensioning System creates a very aerodynamic canopy that’s been specially tuned to sit at the best angle to the wind, offering maximum strength and maximum coverage.
Will it blow inside out?
With its revolutionary Radial Tensioning System, we’ve designed Blunt™ umbrellas to be inversion resistant. However, in (very) extreme weather conditions, they can turn inside out. But there’s no need to throwaway your Blunt™ umbrella. The specially reinforced frame geometry means you can easily flip your Blunt™ back on itself without doing any damage.
Inversion resistance varies from model to model. But if you’re prone to particularly bad weather where you live, our range of stick umbrellas offer the best performance in this respect.
Where are Blunt’s manufactured?
Blunt™ umbrellas are manufactured near Xiamen in China. They’re produced in a factory that was set up by a renowned German umbrella company; it’s now run by a Taiwanese company that has been manufacturing umbrellas for over 50 years.
We partnered with this factory because they’re highly regarded in both Europe and the USA for their commitment to quality. They share our belief in producing best-in-class products, which aligns perfectly with our vision to be the world’s leading umbrella brand.
Granted, they’re not the cheapest makers of umbrellas. But we never trade price for quality.
